Madhumita

Madhumita Maitra, Saha was born in Calcutta (India). Her father Kamalesh Maitra, a famous musician and composer and her mother, Puspa Maitra, singer and musician, promoted Madhumita´s artistic talent, so she could start her dance studies at an age of nine years. In 1975 she completed her education with a dance degree from Rabindra Bharati University in Kolkata.

She worked for the Indian Revival Group Delhi and was a member of the Uday Shankar Indian Culture Centers. Several tours have taken her all over India, as well to Russia, Great Britain, Denmark, Germany, Switzerland and to benefit concerts in Africa. During her tours in India she also gave dance lessons and trained several dancers.

Since 1981 she also teaches in Germany. She lives and works as a dance teacher and choreographer in Hamburg.
